After a week of intermittent rain, the pit was dry enough to continue exhuming more of Mikey. George & his backhoe returned to remove approximately 3-4 feet of earth that was directly above Mikey's thorax and hind legs.
Then with the much-appreciated shoveling help from my son Ryan and fellow horse-enthusiast Mary Bowers, we dug up Mikey's right femur, sacrum, lumbar vertebrae and the last five thoracic vertebrae along with some ribs.
