Jim Masterson has created a unique, interactive method of equine bodywork that involves learning to recognize subtle body cues from the horse when lightly touched, and using subsequent responses from the horse to find and release accumulated tension in key junctions of the body that most affect performance. The key junctions are:
Once we've released restrictive tension in a particular joint or junction, we continue the release by slowly, sensitively asking the joint/junction to move through its normal range of motion and ultimately beyond.
Fundamental to the Masterson Method® is diligently following the Principles of Non-resistance. In other words, the horse must be relaxed. It makes perfect sense… tension in joints and muscles cannot be released when they are braced. When the horse braces or tries to pull away, the practitioner is taught to soften and wait for the horse to relax before proceeding with the movement.
Jim's technique differs from other modalities because it allows the horse to actively participate in the process of releasing tension. The Masterson Method® is something we do with the horse and not to the horse.
